Paris is still my favorite city. Okay, it’s busy, dirty, people are mean and walk fast. But come on, that’s Paris.
I’ve forgotten a bunch of details while I was away.
- Everybody speaks French. There’s no way I can whisper secret stuff to Manu about whatever.
- The light to cross the street isn’t a fat white light guy but a skinny green one.
- In an ATM, you don’t swipe your card, you leave it for a long time.
- In an ATM, you get many colorful euros of different sizes.
- There’s dog shit everywhere. I’m shocked of people not using doggy bags. I have to look where I walk on the sidewalk.
- About sidewalks, there are tiny. And there’s this odd habit of threatening people to take all the space while walking super fast.
- About sidewalks (again), I love having a coffee outside, with a waiter who comes directly to the table. The weather was awesome and mild, so it was even better.
- Bottles of orange juice are small. Street are small, cars, stairs, tables in restaurant: everything is small. But small is cute.
- The street names are cute too: la promenade Maurice Carême, le quai des Fleurs, rue des Quatre-Fils, rue Quincampoix, etc. Pure cuteness and streetstyle poetry.
- I forgot that bar PMU existed. How to explain that? A bar where people come to bet for horses races. That’s a big thing.
- Bakeries are everywhere. Two or three a block. Bread is good, delicious even. Not in every bakery. But still.
- Wifi is rare. That’s annoying.
- Guys whistle to girls in the street. Most annoying habit ever, though when I left for the US I thought that no one liked me.
- I went to a bar which was an old abbey from the 13th century. Only in Paris.
- Waiters are not mean, they work fast, and I love it.
- In restaurants, there’s no hostess and there’s not tip (service is included). That makes things easier.
