South End is a very cute and nice neighborhood: streets of red-bricks buildings; I really like them! In every corner, we can find restaurants ‘chic and cool’. In Paris, we would call this “bobo” which means, bohemian and bourgeois. I thinks if Parisian standards could be transfer over Boston, maybe South End would be declared as bobo: farmer markets on Sunday morning, posh deli, brunch outside, food shop for pets, Boston Ballet… In three words : (good) food, culture and 1 million dollars apartments: that’s clues about being bobo. But American can really be bobo? I doubt it : too much SUV in front oh these houses (not enough casual and ‘bohemian’ to my opinion.) Anyway, last Monday I went to South End to lunch in an Italian place, Coppa.
I’m surprised in Boston to find everywhere of what I would called ‘celebration of superlative’. Wherever we go, awards are always showed: in my yoga center, there’s the Best yoga teacher, in front of restaurants, it’s written Best menu, Best donuts, Best sushi, Best this or that. Coppa is no exception to this rule : best chef and best new restaurant. It’s a kind of quality insurance very show-off. I prefer try by myself.
We were very disappointed by an Italian restaurant we tried in Allston, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to try again an Italian here. But my conversation partner is a food lover, as I am, and I can trust her. I was right to rely on her. It was really good.
The menu list was huge and we chose to take various snacks : normal amount of food and exquisite dishes. I’m still ‘moved’ when I think of the arancini we had (fried risotto balls with fontina) and the meatballs al forno. Every bites were delightful.
Other common interest I share with Linda : passion for colorful nails, yeah !!!
Another good point of Coppa, when we get out of it, we just have to cross the street to reach Formaggio Kitchen to buy pastrami, Vermont cheese or other delicious products (we have a new gastronomic passion with Manu : honey ; we tested several from Vermont, Arizona, Hawaï… ).
To eat outside, we’ll have to wait for a less windy weather…
