We fearlessly left the city without a map or a GPS. Just a quick look at the names of the roads before leaving. Was it a smart move?!
We drive through the suburbs, and surprise, surprise, it’s ugly, an international kind of ugly. We go through smaller cities. It’s strange for us to find narrow streets as in Europe. We are still not used to the colorful wooden houses. The closer we get to Cape Ann, the more chic the house are. They have private beaches, their own dock and big boat. Nice!
We go through the town of Salem: yes, THE city of witches! I have read the Stephen King book, but it was about vampires. The book was so scary that I put it in the hallway at night. I didn’t want to sleep next to it. The town looks pretty (at least with daylight), there’s even a museum of witchcraft.
We stopped in Rockport, a tiny village. It seems to be the number one tourist destination of Cape Ann. In the streets, we discovered the old houses of fishermen that were turned into art galleries, restaurants or gift shops. How cute.
Unfortunately, for now everything is still closed. On the port we see lots of lobster traps, a very good reason to come back to grab seafood
The North Cape is truly gorgeous, and this is where we find the nature. I want to come back with bikes and sleeping in a hut!
And this is the video I’ve made. Sorry, it’s moving a lot (I haven’t figured out how to calm things down with Adobe Premiere).
A strange detail for us : street lights above and across the streets and the lack of roundabout (in France there’s a sort of lobby for roundabouts, there are everywhere).
Good to know: I can convert the Fahrenheit temperature to Celsius. Well, I already knew that 30 ° F was cold, 0 ° F I could’t go out and from 40 ° F it is acceptable. This is an 8 year old kid who explained to me the trick: divide by 2 the Fahrenheit temperature and then subtract 15, et voilà, you’ve got the Celsius. Easy!
