Home sweet home // We moved out!

We did it! We’ve moved in a new, nice, calm and sunny flat… Long story short, I love it. I’m so glad we’ve changed, it wasn’t easy. At first we were told it was impossible to break a one-year lease. We discussed a lot, and money won: 1/2 rent month to pay and we were authorized to move out.

And ‘cherry on a cupcake’ (so we say in French), moving in wasn’t too hard this time. But let’s face it: we’ve been here for 4 months, no time to accumulate too many clutters (so no need to sort stuff before packing boxes). But 4 months isn’t enough time either to ‘accumulate’ friends who agree the ultimate friendship trial: helping moving. Luckily, Manu asked to 2 colleagues  to help us: scientifics who can load a truck as easily as playing Tetris, who’ve got very clever tips to carry better, and who’ve got strong and healthy muscle. 3 floors to climb: that was ‘butter’ – or peanut butter if you prefer (French expressions are very often related to food…).

Nothing went really wrong, except that I’ve lost the keys of the last apartment. I couldn’t find them when I had to give them back (the landlord wanted us to leave them on the freezer – or maybe that’s a way to speak I didn’t understand). But I couldn’t find them. I discovered them after unpacking all boxes, in the new apartement. They were carefully packed. Bravo myself.

Now we’re enjoying living on the top floor. Sometimes, a squirel shows up on the balcony. I know that squirrels are for Americans like pigeons for Parisians. But I can’t help myself: I love watching them moving!

Good news too: the Charles River is very close to our new place. Perfect for a run (or to be honest, to read or picnic).

We are still trying to figure out where we can go out on our neighborhood (that’s problably what I’ll miss from my last area, it was really easy to find nice places). The first night we’ve been here, we went out to celebrate with our movers-friends. We had cocktails in a fancy place, Eastern Standard. Fancy, but it’s was ‘too much’ for us. Too chic (but delicious).

One step left: to fill the ‘apartement condition statement’. We have to examine by ourselves the flat (we were used to do this with the landlord in France, in a very exhausting way). We’ve noticed anything yet. Except one thing: we can’t find how to turn off the light in the closet. It’s been on since we’re here…
